My birding vehicle

In October of 2018 I was fortunate enough to purchase my very own Birding vehicle (An important piece of equipment if you consider yourself serious about the hobby). So, I welcomed a Ford Ranger double cab 4x4 into my adventurous birding life! I finally had a bakkie in which to stash various pieces of camping gear, cooler boxes, gumboots, towels and the odd keen birding student in the back.

I found myself taking a few more photos out in the field. Bird, bird, bird, bakkie, bird, bird, bird, bakkie! A great way to keep track of the places I’ve been, is to take pictures of her in the field. Here are a couple of shots that ive taken while out in the field:

Its been almost a year and a half and I have done 40 000km and lost only 1 tyre to the infamous sickle bush spines. Of the 40 000km I would estimate 4000 of those kilometers would be dirt roads – I’m hoping to get that closer to 20% in the next 40 000km.

One of the best experiences that i have had with my vehicle was doing a day tour up Sani Pass into Lesotho. Birding is certainly an adventure so make sure you have a trusty birding companion!
